Artist Statement
My work is an eclectic amalgamation of the now.
I create complex artistic devices that mechanize the process of art making and conversely bring forth ideas of ones self portraiture imbedded amongst socio-political commentary, the super hero power of having the inherent ability to create and reflect, ideas about production, industry, democratization, the fallacies in contemporary culture, ideas of being "man," existing and the experiences of love.
I demand each and every one of my pieces are social stimulants that move the viewer from passively observing the work and gutturally transfixing their receptive positioning of my work from the initial curiosity and exploration of the work, to eventually inserting the viewer into a position of feeling communal acceptance and thus they are liberated and want to place their hands within the active participation of the work.
I’ve always said that I want my works to persuade the viewer to investigate the cerebral aspects of their own self in the everyday whether it be looking introspectively for social narrative imbedded within the roots of my work or to simply sit back and enjoy the ingenuous reality of the performance and the act of creation that is happening directly in front of them. I want my work to pull at every guttural string that is innate within every viewer. From a three year old to an old art historian I strive for the conceptual context of my work to feed the intrigue of the mind but I equally weigh the beauty and importance of instinctive fascination and transfixion that lies within the power of community, the beauty of creation and the felling that grows when you are apart of a moment in time that is shared amongst a group of people. In reflection of the moment that you experienced you are thus allowed to mark your place in time with a collective group of people an associative historical markings of the event is imbedded with a groups historical telling’s and remembrances. I create machines that are rooted within the modes of sculpture, the process of printmaking and the inclusion of new media. I create good art that hopefully, at the very least, brings a smile and assist someone in “finding their own positioning in the sun.”
