Born and raised in South Texas, Eric Fuertes received his
BFA in 2007 from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, where he studied the
art of metal casting and fabrication under the guidance of Professors Jack Gron
and Greg Rueter. During his final semester, while he was completing his thesis
show, Eric moved to Houston, Texas where he continued his growth in the art of
metal work as a foundry man for Donnie Keen at Keen Foundry Inc. In the fall of
2008, Eric was given a full ride to Graduate School and moved to DeKalb,
Illinois to continue his technical and conceptual education by pursuing an MFA
in Sculpture at Northern Illinois University. Upon graduating with his MFA
degree (with honors) in Sculpture, Eric extended his stay in DeKalb and is
currently a Adjunct Faculty Instructor in Sculpture/3D Foundations at NIU. He continues to create his own sculptural
works and has recently been taking his mechanical prowess as a
fabricator/artist/inventor to a whole 'nother level by creating interactive
sculptural printing presses that not only challenge the art game but redefine
it!
